October 26. 2000 (see details on page 6) \1S^ September Board of Commissioners Meeting Hearing — Tax Districts for Beach Nourishment Approximately 100 citizens attended the Public Hearing concerning the establishment of two Tax Districts for the Beach Nourishment Project. The Hearing was held on Tuesday, September 12, 2000, prior to the regular Town Board meeting. Tax District 1 will include all properties south of Salter Path Road that meet the shoreline. This includes all condominium complexes with common areas that meet the shoreline. Tax District 2 will include all properties north of Salter Path Road. Also included in Tax District 2 will be properties located on Dogwood Circle, Knollwood Drive and Pinewood Drive that border Salter Path Road and do not touch the shoreline. Tax District 1 will have a tax rate increase of 50 cents per $100 of assessed valuation. Tax District 2 will have a tax increase of 5 cents per $100 of assessed valuation. Should the Beach Nourishment Project not come to fruition or the Project is completed and bonds paid in full, the two tax districts will no longer be in existence. There will be future public hearings on the Beach Nourishment Project. Public Hearing notices will be advertised in the Carteret News Times and posted in the entrance to Town Hall. Thirty-two applications have been received for the position of Emergency Services Director. Within the next few weeks, interviews will be held and a selection made. The Board of Commissioners have asked the Fire Chief, Fire Inspector, EMS Chief and Director of Emergency Management to have a part in the selection process. Dawcutt Properties The BOC gave approval to the site plat for 12 unit residential condos to be located on Oakleaf Drive behind the Christmas By the Sea building. The Board also approved the final plat for 12 residential condos oceanfront on Salter Path Road beside the Atlantis Lodge.
